Dead Horse State Park is the beginning of Canyonlands National Park - Islands in the Sky district. This horseshoe bend where the Colorado River goes through is the famous lookout point in the park. I attempted to photograph the sunset but the light on this bend was very harsh in the evening. This is an HDR of 3 images.

A little patience goes a long way sometimes. At first I was very disappointed in the light conditions, but as the sun dropped I noticed the canyons behind me were beautiful and everything glowed a bright pink. This is an HDR of 8 images as the sun sets.

After the sun dropped the lighting was not as harsh. This is a single long exposure shot, the slight pink glow still showing as the sun dropped.

This is a mountain bikers heaven - you can see the trails below in some of these pictures. Dead Horse State Park is not affiliated with the National Park Service, but is at the entrance to Canyonlands.
